Standardization of the development and modification of assistive products by using accessible design to facilitate the use by persons with disabilities including older persons.
Assistive products that are dealt with by other technical committees such as access to means of transport (ISO/TCs 8, 20, 22, 177), building construction (ISO/TC 59), furniture (ISO/TC 136), implants for surgery (ISO/TC 150), prosthetics and orthotics (ISO/TC 168), ophthalmic optics (ISO/TC 172), electrical safety (IEC/TC 62) and hearing aids (IEC/TC 29), and design principles dealt with by ergonomics (ISO/TC 159).
Assistive product is defined in Clause 2.3 of ISO 9999:2011 (Assistive products for persons with disability - Classification and terminology).
Accessible design is defined in Clause 2.19 of ISO/IEC Guide 71:2014 (Guide for addressing accessibility in standards).
