Established in July 2020, the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) aims to boost the UAE’s industrial sector and increase its contribution to the GDP through developing laws and policies to establish a world-class industrial development framework.
Standards and Technical Regulations Sector (S&TR)
Within MoIAT, the Standards and Technical Regulations Sector (S&TR) is responsible for issuing national standards and technical and metrology regulations through technical committees and specialized working groups. This ensures the inclusion of representatives from relevant entities in the industrial, commercial and service sectors, research and educational institutions, and government authorities.
Facilitating trade and technology transfer between countries by harmonizing national standards with international best practices is also one of the S&TR Sector’s responsibilities. In line with the UAE’s commitments to World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements, MoIAT oversees the UAE National Enquiry Point for the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement, established in 2005. As part of this mandate, the STR Sector responds to inquiries on technical regulations and Standards as well as conformity assessment procedures, and notifies WTO member on the technical regulations & conformity assessment procedures, and communicates feedback from the Organization to the concerned authorities in the UAE to align the country’s industrial sector with the technical requirements for export to the other member states.
The Conformity Sector at MoIAT, through its complementary role in developing policies, ensures that production lines in the country apply best practices in accordance with the UAE and international standards and technical regulations.
National Accreditation System (ENAS)
National Accreditation Department was established in 2004, ENAS has the responsibility to operate for the benefit of UAE’s economy and wellbeing. ENAS aims to achieve, maintain and broaden international recognition, which support in contributing to the National Strategic goals through its Accreditation services and related activities to conformity assessment bodies, which strengthen improving business competitiveness and overcome technical barriers to trade,
