What is ISO 16321-1 — The international safety glasses standard for eye and face protection

ISO 16321-1 sets out the general safety and performance requirements for safety glasses and eye protection used in occupational settings. It applies to a wide range of protective eyewear—both plano and prescription—including face shields and goggles designed to protect users from common workplace hazards.

This international standard is part of a larger suite of ISO documents focused on protective equipment, and works alongside ISO 18526 (test methods), ISO 18527 (sports eyewear), and the upcoming ISO 19734 (selection and maintenance guidance).

FAQ

It does not apply to sports eyewear (see ISO 18527), solar-only sunglasses (ISO 12312), or laser-specific protection.
