The Lithuanian Standards Board (LST) under the Ministry of Environment was established on

25 April 1990 as the only legally authorized National Standards Body in Lithuania competent for all areas of standardization activities (including electrical engineering and telecommunications) and has exclusive right for standardization activities by virtue of the Law on Standardization.

LST develops and improves national standardization, sets up technical committees to develop draft standards and coordinates their activity, establishes procedures for the adoption of international and European standards as Lithuanian standards, adopts, publishes and distributes Lithuanian standards, application of which is voluntary, seeks to prevent infringement of copyright requirements of international and European standards, provides information on Lithuanian standards, technical regulations and conformity assessment procedures to Lithuanian institutions and economic operators.

The staff of LST totals 62 employees, 55 of whom have a university education. The organizational structure of LST includes the following divisions: Management Board; Standardization division 1; Standardization division 2; Standardization division 3; Standardization division 4; Publishing and distribution division; Planning and proofreading division; Accounting and Logistics divisions; Information and Technology division; Library.

Currently there are 77 LST technical committees, with representatives from manufacturers, service providers, consumers, public authorities, and science organizations. Five LST technical committees are under creation. About 850 representatives from more than 600 institutions are members of LST TCs. Manufacturers make up the biggest portion of members (about 73%); with science making up 12%, service providers 5%, consumers 5%, and public authorities 5%.

To improve consumer participation in standardization activity, LST established a Consumer Commission on 21 June 1999.

The Lithuanian Standards Board is a full member of ISO, CEN, CENELEC and ETSI, and an associate member of the IEC.
