The National Standardization Agency of Indonesia (Badan Standardisasi Nasional - BSN), was established in 1997 under the Presidential Decree 13/1997 and was enhanced by the Presidential Decree No 103/2001. BSN is a government institution, a non-ministerial institution under and directly responsible to the President of the Republic of Indonesia.  BSN is responsible in the development and promotion of national standardization in Indonesia. BSN took over the function and duty of the Standardization Council of Indonesia (Dewan Standardisasi Nasional - DSN). BSN function has been strengthened with the establishment of the Law No. 20/2014 on Standardization and Conformity Assessment.

The organization has the following functions:

  1. To assess and formulate the national policy on standardization
  2. To coordinate the programmes and activities in the implementation of BSN tasks
  3. To accelerate and empower government institutions in the implementation of national programme on standardization
  4. To organize the national and international cooperation on standardization
  5. To organize the general administrative services
