The Instituto de Normas Técnicas de Costa Rica (INTECO) was established in 1987 in response to the country's commitment to developing a quality system that would enhance trade opportunities and strengthen competitiveness.

INTECO is a non-profit organization, recognized as the National Standards Body of Costa Rica, playing a key role within the National Quality System.

Standardization is at the core of INTECO’s work. In collaboration with experts, businesses, and institutions, it develops technical standards that promote safety, trust, and efficiency. These standards not only support productivity and performance but also provide a solid foundation for sustainable development.

With a clear mission, INTECO provides solutions, creates value, and strengthens every sector of society, contributing to a better and more competitive Costa Rica.
