
This module provides an introduction to standards and standardization. Chapter 1 introduces the phenomenon, provides a short historical overview and talks about the use of standards, giving reasons for their growing importance. Chapter 2 defines standards and describes the different categories. Chapter 3 focuses on standards development , Chapter 4 on the acceptance of standards and Chapter 5 on their implementation. Chapter 6 describes the impact of standards. References are made to the other units that elaborate further on the topics only briefly addressed in this module.
