This article describes the courses and projects that have been run by the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), a 7,500-student engineering school in Montreal, to involve professional graduate students in the application and improvement of international standards. Software Engineering Standards are introduced and used in Software Quality Assurance and Software Process Improvement courses and in industrial projects conducted by graduate professional software engineering and IT students. The ISO/IEC 29110 series of standards on "Software engineering -- Lifecycle profiles for Very Small Entities (VSEs)" and freely available guides serve as a framework for the student projects.
