This case study aims to be a basis for class or on-line discussions concerning the relationships between standards and markets. It shows how standards can help (or allow) for a product to enter a particular market, but cannot guarantee its success on a particular market. The study focuses on the export of small cars from former Yugoslavia (Yugo) onto the U.S. market in the mid-1980s.
