The Online Browsing Platform is another step for ISO in implementing state-of-the-art technologies for publishing International Standards. Based on extensible markup language (XML), this new platform provides standards users and standards developers with a simpler, faster, and better way to use ISO standards and publications.
Users can now preview the content of standards (including the foreword, table of contents, introduction, scope and bibliographical references), run full-text searches, and use advanced filtering options.
Users can also browse terms, definitions and graphical symbols included in ISO standards as the Online Browsing Platform already contains all the terminology extracted from the entire catalogue of ISO standards, as well as more than 4 000 symbols. Finally, they can search for country codes through the user interface now available in English and French.
More standards will be added to the Online Browsing Platform and become available for preview as they are converted into XML format. The goal is to have 30 % of the ISO collection of standards converted by the end of 2012, with the entire portfolio converted by the end of 2013.
