The ISO Web site has a special place – the ISO Café, where the menu includes dozens of everyday examples of the benefits ISO standards bring.

ISO Café includes:

  • An overview of the ISO system in user-friendly language on the essentials of ISO and what it does
  • Examples from many areas of life and work showing how ISO standards provide technical, economic and social benefits.

Written in a user-friendly language and illustrated by cartoons, the ISO Café has just been updated. New entries include standards for:

  • Disabled persons
  • IT office equipment
  • Street crossing
  • Travel and tourism
  • Sensory analysis
  • Safety at work
  • Cold work places
  • Protective clothing
  • Plastic recycling
  • Environmental impacts of products
  • Spinal disc implants
  • Ergonomics data
  • Beach safety flags
  • Ski touring boots
  • Optical discs
  • State-of-the-art spaghetti.

The ISO Café is a virtual space for those who want to learn more about the benefits of standards. It shows through concrete examples why standards matter, where to find information on standards and how ISO standards are developed.

ISO Secretary-General Rob Steele comments: "ISO International Standards help to raise levels of quality, safety, reliability, efficiency and interchangeability in the products and services we use. Standards are everywhere and everybody benefits from them in their everyday lives. Through the examples on the menu of the ISO Café, ISO opens the door to the big, wide, wonderful world of ISO standards."
