Area 1: Quality infrastructure

Short-term objective 1 (Outcome)

Strengthening the national quality infrastructure in the beneficiary countries is one of the main project objectives.

This short-term objective is directly linked with the following outputs and activities:

Output 1.1: National quality infrastructure strengthened, in particular the NSB at institutional level

Related activities

Institutional Strengthening (INS) project, which consists of a number of targeted capacity-building interventions that will be identified after initial needs assessment, conducted on-site by ISO. These interventions could be workshops, seminars, training courses, staff attachments and study visits, sponsorship to ISO/TC or SCs or WGs, coaching, short-term consultancies or other ISO regular technical assistance activities that can be tailored and delivered to the needs of the beneficiary NSB. A high degree of ownership is expected on the part of beneficiary NSBs who are expected to mobilize their policy-makers and stakeholders in order to bring them to participate fully in the deployment of the project. In summary the INS Project activities consists of the followings:

  • Needs assessment activities
  • Implementation activities for delivery of priority interventions by ISO
  • Periodic monitoring and follow-up the implementation of the action plan
  • Close-out and evaluation activities

Target audience

  • Related NSB staff;
  • Members of national technical committees (including secretaries and chairs);
  • Other related stakeholders

Output 1.2: Collaboration between NSB and trade promotion organizations (TPOs) at regional and national level established and strengthened

Related activity 

The NSB and TPO from each country will be supported to establish a linkage to strengthen their cooperation and build a comprehensive and sustainable support system for long-term export success. This activity will be conducted jointly with ITC and the beneficiary NSB has to identify a trade-relevant organization such as TPO as a partner. In summary this output consists of the following activities:

  • Finding out about existing linkages, opportunities and obstacles between the NSBs and trade-relevant organizations
  • Organize two regional workshops (i.e. one for English speaking countries and one for French speaking countries) for NSB and trade-relevant organization representatives from each beneficiary country
  • Implement NSB - trade-relevant organization action plan on their collaboration at national level.
  • Organize a follow-up regional workshop for NSB and trade-relevant organization representatives from each country

Target audience

  • One representative from each beneficiary NSB;
  • One representative from trade-relevant organization in the beneficiary country

Output 1.3: Regional cooperation and awareness on the role and benefits of International Standards improved among MENA countries 

Related activity

The beneficiary countries have agreed during the project launch meeting held on 31 March – 1 April 2015 to select six topics to be covered during the regional workshops which are linked with the results of the baseline survey.

Target audience 

  • One/two representative from each beneficiary NSB;
  • One representative from NSB’s  stakeholders
