The company selected for this study by the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization is Petra Engineering Industries Co., a leading engineering company in the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) industry. With over 1500 employees, including more than 300 engineers, the company exports to over 50 countries. The company is certified to quality and environmental management systems; and has achieved the CE Mark through a testing and conformity assessment emphasizing product properties such as safety, quality, durability, environmental compatibility, and conformity to standards.
The study focuses on the business functions: Management and administration; Research, development and design; Procurement; Production; Marketing and sales. Qualitative benefits deriving from the use of standards are identified as better environmental management and health and safety management compliance leading to an improved reputation; more efficient handling of supplies owing to procurement from suppliers certified to standards; and efficient customer service.
It is estimated that standards contributed to the company EBIT in a measure corresponding to 4.2% of the average sales revenue between 2006 and 2010.
