Objectives of Section 1

After completing this section, you should be able to:


  • Define a standard in your own words and name some of the things it does
  • Describe how countries use standards to support regulation
  • Know what standards organizations are, including ISO, and briefly describe how ISO works with its partners
  • Identify several ways that national standards work begins, and how this works at the international level
  • Know what COPOLCO is, what it does, and list a few impacts it has on ISO's work
