SSR, the Swedish Standards Council, is a body owned by the Government (50%) and the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise (50%).
SSR is the body that authorizes the Swedish NSBs, e.g. SIS (Swedish Standards Institute) for ISO and SEK. (Swedish Electrotechnical Commission) for IEC.
SSR created its consumer council, SSR Konsumentråd (Swedish Standards Consumer Council) in 1990.
SSR is financed by the Government. Annually, the Government gives a detailed scheme for how the funds shall be used.
In 2008, 3.25 million SEK was allocated to SSR Konsumentråd. Of this, 2.0 MSEK was earmarked by the Government for the fees that the NSB collects from the consumer organizations, trade unions, environmental organizations and other NGOs that wish to participate in the standardization work. 1.25 million SEK was earmarked for travel costs for experts from the organizations mentioned for participation in international meetings, for training, for information, for other activities to promote user influence in the standardization and for secretariat costs.
Please note that formally SSR Konsumentråd is independent of SIS. However; SIS has delegated to SSR Konsumentråd to be the Swedish representative to ISO/COPOLCO and is providing its secretariat.
