CASCO open day on conformity assessment

In the last three years, CASCO organized a workshop the day before the opening of the plenary with the purpose of focusing on a critical issue related to conformity assessment. Their outcomes have been very positive allowing indepth discussion and raising awareness among the participants.

CASCO decided the timing is right to turn this event into an open day. This will allow participants to interact, exchange ideas and network on policy and technical work.

The event will take place in Montreux, Switzerland, at the hotel Majestic, at one hour from Geneva. All details regarding the venue, the transport and the registration can be consulted under the practical information page.

This open day will feature two main sessions run alternatively in the morning and in the afternoon, and four smaller sessions run in parallel in adjacent rooms. The first of the main sessions will focus on the Best practices for establishing and operating National Mirror Committees based on the recommendations of the ISO/TMB/PEG (Process Evaluation Group) report and the second main session will concentrate on the on changes of ISO/IEC 17021:2011 "Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems" published in February 2011.
The smaller sessions will be on five of the CASCO ongoing working groups (WG) to give an opportunity to the convenors to present the work done in their group. The convenors will present the standard they are working on and provide an update on their group's latest developments. They will then dedicate time to focus on four to five core issues with the participants. The working groups will be:

  • WG 29, revision of ISO/IEC Guide 65 to ISO/IEC 17065 (certification of products, processes and services)
  • WG 32, revision of ISO/IEC Guide 67 to ISO/IEC 17067 (product certification)
  • WG 30, revision of ISO/IEC 17024 (certification of persons)
  • WG 31, revision of ISO/IEC 17020 (inspection)
  • WG 33, development of ISO/IEC TS 17022 (third-party management system audit report)

WG 29 and WG 32 will be held in conjunction as the standards are closely related.

Finally, to enhance the understanding on the CASCO plenary, a session will be held to give background on the plenary's objectives and expected outcomes and to initiate discussion on some of the issues of the plenary's agenda.
