Cosmetics
Moisturizing, cleaning, beautifying, the face and body using cosmetics is most of the time very agreeable, but sometimes it can turn into a nightmare.
Most cosmetics do not induce a health risk when the directions on the label are followed and when the product is used properly. However, contamination of cosmetics – during the production process – can cause adverse effects in certain individuals with sensitivities. These effects range from infections to severe allergic reactions.
ISO 18416:2007 helps to reduce cases of infection from cosmetic products by providing laboratories with guidelines for microbiological examination to ensure their quality and safety. It includes guidelines for the detection and identification of Candida Albicans, a microorganism that can cause skin and mucous membrane infections.
ISO 22716:2007 provides good manufacturing practices for cosmetic products and offers organizational and practical advice on the management of the human, technical and administrative factors affecting product quality. It follows the flow of products from receipt to shipment and it gives guidelines for the production, control, storage and shipment of cosmetic products.
This standard will play an important role in the creation of safe cosmetic products and will prove to be an invaluable guide for laboratories.
