ISO Contest for Young Standardizers in Developing Countries

The purpose of the contest is to encourage young professionals in developing countries and economies in transition to engage in international standardization and to raise awareness of the importance of standards in promoting safe and sustainable economic development.

The award is co-sponsored by ISO and the DIN – Deutsches Institut für Normung, the ISO member for Germany. It is named after Professor Dr. Helmut Reihlen in recognition of his significant contribution to helping ISO members in developing countries to build capacity in order to participate more fully in international standardization activities. The contest is organized under the ISO Action Plan for Developing Countries 2005-2010.

Prizes reward the three best essays written on an important subject of international standardization or related matters. The contest is open to permanent employees of the standardization institutions that are members of ISO in developing countries and in economies in transition. Others who may also participate in the contest are delegates and experts involved in ISO technical work who have been duly authorized by the ISO member in his/her country. Candidates must not be over 35 years old.
