Inaugural Award 2007

The Award was organized for the first time in 2007 and, following a rigorous screening procedure, six finalists were identified for evaluation by the Award selection committee consisting of eminent international personalities from academia, the economic sphere and the media.

The selection committee unanimously selected as its inaugural winner, the China Jiliang University, People' Republic of China which was presented with the Award at the 30th ISO General Assembly in Geneva in 2007. Professor Song Mingshun, the Chief Director of the programme on standardization, received the Award on behalf of the University.

The selection committee was particuarly impressed by the University's undergraduate programme;  its pedagogical approach and the success of its students to take up positions in a very diverse range of organizations and industries.

Professor Mingshun outlined the undergraduate programme on standardization in the ISO Focus article from November 2007.

Since 2000, more than 800 students have graduated. The programme includes topics such as standardization principles, international standardization, WTO/Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) – Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) and quality management alongside a range of other topics including engineering, technology and economics. Senior students are encouraged take ISO 9001 internal auditor exams and the teaching quality management system itself is certified to ISO 9001:2000.  

The University has also produced a range of books related to standardization adopted by textbooks and provides leadership in the field to universities in China.

The other five finalists came from institutions in Egypt, France, Japan, Rebublic of Korea and The Netherlands.
