How ISO works with consumers
ISO organizes consumers and encourages the input of consumers' views on two levels:
- in standards development work, through the participation of its national members and Consumers International (CI).
- at the policy level, through the ISO Committee on Consumer Policy (ISO/COPOLCO).
Through Consumers International, representatives participate in some international Technical Committees of particular interest to consumers within ISO. CI also participates in some TCs within the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
COPOLCO members are the members of ISO - national standard bodies - which join COPOLCO and designate a person who is responsible for consumer liaison. This person usually comes from the ISO member but may come from a member-appointed national consumer association.
