e-standardization

ISO Focus, November 2008 ISO Focus, November 2008

Can you imagine working without an e-mail account or access to the Internet? Today it has become almost impossible for a business to succeed without an adequate electronic infrastructure.

Indeed, information and communication technology have brought the world closer together and redefined the way we work, opening up in the process a new world of opportunity.

Conscious of this potential, ISO has increasingly moved in the direction of e-standardization. The November issue of ISO Focus, explores the array of e-tools already available to the standardization community, and how they add value to both users and developers of standards.

E-standardization has indeed many advantages. By allowing experts from around the world to collaborate in real time, it can shorten the standards development time. E-tools such as the Global Directory, Livelink, e-balloting and document management applications help save resources, and thus empower and facilitate the participation of all members, be they large or small, anywhere in the world.

This thought-provoking issue of ISO Focus not only reviews the inventory of what has been accomplished, and where it can take us, but looks farther ahead to the developments of what may come, and the revolutionizing impact technology may still bring.
