ISO Focus - October 2007
Facilitating transport and trade
From the packaging of dangerous goods to the efficient loading of trucks – more and more countries need access to safe, fast, and reliable transport services to serve their trade and transport needs.
The October 2007 issue of ISO Focus looks at the progress and usefulness of ISO standards in the context of the current technical and business environment. A portfolio of articles examines how International Standards benefit all modes of transport, while contributing to a safe and seamless flow of goods for the benefit of governments, traders, transport service providers and other stakeholders.
In an exclusive interview, Secretary-General of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Michel Danet explains the purpose of the Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade and the role and benefits of ISO standards: “These ISO standards contribute directly to the security of containers and therefore to the security of world trade when seen against the fact that at least 80 percent of goods being transported internationally are done so as containerized cargo".
