ISO Focus April 2006
From Farm to Fork
ISO Focus, April 2006The April issue of ISO Focus brings together a portfolio of articles that show how ISO contributes significantly to Agro-food technologies through standardization.
Feeding the planet is a huge task that requires a balance of increasing productivity and ensuring quality and safety. This issue looks at how ISO's food safety management systems standard ensures safety and traceability from the farm to the fork.
Other articles tackle the issues of the innovative technologies used to detect genetically modified organisms and the advanced, cost-effective machinery used to harvest crops. The April issue also looks at the challenges posed by the lack of efficient irrigation systems, particularly in developing countries and their importance in the food industry– the varied articles demonstrate how international standardization contributes significantly to the entire food production chain.
In an exclusive interview in the April issue, Director-General of the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), Dr. Jacques Diouf emphasizes the FAO's main concern – food security for all – and the importance of its collaboration with ISO in areas of mutual interest, such as methods of analysis and sampling, products certification and food traceability.
