  Despite the financial crisis which began in 2007 and spread to most countries and sectors of the economy in 2008, The ISO Survey of Certifications – 2008 reveals certification activity around one or more of ISO’s management system standards in 176 countries (175 in 2007).
• ISO/TC 207 plenary in Cairo is first in an Arab country
  The 16 th plenary meeting of ISO technical committee ISO/TC 207, Environmental management, was held in Cairo, Egypt, from 21-27 June 2009, hosted by the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS). H. E. Eng. Rachid Mohamed Rachid, Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry, opened the meeting attended by approximately 250 representatives from 45 ISO member bodies and 11 liaison organizations.
