ISO Focus+ – February 2012
Future gear
The global automotive sector is undergoing a radical transformation. Thirty years ago, no one would have anticipated the extent or the speed at which the industry would change: goodbye gas-guzzlers, hello high-tech, high-efficiency vehicles.
In an ISO Focus+ exclusive, high-level executives from the world’s leading carmakers such as Audi, Bentley Motors, and Kia Motors, reveal their companies' perspectives on the benefits of standards implementation and leading industry figures share their expectations for today and tomorrow.
Articles cover an array of topics, from intelligent transport systems and accident reduction to driver assistance systems and on-board diagnostics. This issue of the magazine also explores some of the main concerns of the industry, such as pollution and the costs of oil, with articles on ISO standards for hybrid and electric cars and alternative fuels.
Exclusive interview with Sergio Marchionne
In an exclusive interview, Sergio Marchionne discusses the importance of ISO International Standards for the automotive industry. "We do need standards; the world needs standards. Standards help an enterprise manage business-critical issues, such as quality, environmental performance and safety. A particular region of the world might have different regulatory standards than another one, but the use of International Standards forces us to judge our operations against the best in the world and steers us toward the use of best practices to accomplish business requirements.”
