ISO Focus+ – July-August 2010
Travel
Travel can be exciting and rewarding. But as any person who has been to a foreign location knows, it can also present many challenges. From producing passports, to obtaining visas, from finding your way in an unfamiliar location to dealing with a different currency and language, from understanding cultural sensitivities to being aware of health and safety risks – travel is by no means a simple endeavor.
Yet given the vital role that travel – be it for fun, work, family, health or religious reasons – has in today’s global economy and lifestyle, it is important to ensure that the experience is as smooth and safe as possible. And here International Standards can help.
The July/August 2010 issue of ISO Focus+ features some of the key standards that facilitate travel – from standards for passports and biometric identification to tourism services and graphical symbols.
Exclusive interview with Peter-Mario Kubsch, CEO of Studiosus
The issue features an exclusive interview with Peter-Mario Kubsch, CEO of Studiosus, a large tour operator which applies standards to enable sustainable travel. Speaking on social responsibility he says, “It is a great advantage that the UN Global Compact principles will be included in the future ISO 26000, as many companies, like Studiosus, are already familiar with them. We look forward to the publication of the standard!”
The issue also includes an interview with Trine Tveter, Managing Director of Standards Norway (ISO member for the country), who tells us more about Norway’s decision to host the 2010 ISO General Assembly in Oslo, “We want to show the strength of Norwegian standardization and the broad competence of our trade and industry. What’s more, we want to make sure that this big event gives ISO standards more publicity in Norwegian society.”
