ISO Focus+ – March 2011
Social responsibility – ISO 26000 tells it like it is
Sweatshops, employees working for below subsistence salaries, gender inequality and the ravages done to the environment are some of the many issues that social responsibility strives to address.
More and more organizations around the world and their stakeholders, are becoming aware of the need for, and benefits of, socially responsible behavior as a means of contributing to sustainable development.
The March 2011 issue of ISO Focus+ tells social responsibility like it is, and focuses on the growing role that ISO 26000, which provides guidance on SR, is taking in its promotion. Already organizations large and small are implementing the standard, as can be seen from several of the case studies included in this report. Similarly, key players in the field of sustainability and SR are publishing, linking documents to align efforts.
