ISO Focus - September 2009
Going green
The end of 2009 could see a new treaty to replace the Kyoto protocol, following the much awaited United Nations Climate Change Conference to take place in Copenhagen, Denmark. Climate change is also the subject of this year’s World Standards Day (October 14).
The September 2009 ISO Focus provides an overview of ISO’s contribution to environmental challenges, including the latest news on the development of a carbon footprint standard. The issue devotes considerable attention to the energy sector, which according to the International Energy Agency, has a central role to play in curbing emissions.
ISO is focusing on energy efficiency through the innovative future ISO 50001 standard for energy management systems, as well as work on terminology, buildings and emission-free vehicles. The issue also looks at ISO’s and the International Electrotechnical Commission’s efforts on renewables.
The September 2009 ISO Focus features an exclusive interview with the Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Yvo de Boer, who tells us about his expectations for Copenhagen, and his views on ISO’s contribution.
