The ISO 14020 series of standards provides businesses with a globally recognized and credible set of international benchmarks against which they can to prepare the environmental labelling they increasingly provide on products and in advertising, in response to consumer demand. Reasons for using these standards are: being ISO standards, they have global recognition they have the legitimacy that comes from being drafted by a diverse range of stakeholders they represent objectively agreed benchmarks that create a level playing field for the dissemination of environmental information.

Lithuania , a member of the European Union since 2004 and one of the fastest growing, has a booming service sector which accounts for about 60 % of GDP. Nor surprisingly, therefore, the Lithuanian Standards Board has been developing standards for sectors like finance, tourism, postal, cleaning and health spa industries.

ISO has published a combined book and CD giving organizations advice on how to make integrated use of management system standards. The integrated use of management system standards distils the experience and expertise of an ISO task force comprising 16 members drawn from business organizations representing a wide range of countries and sectors, as well as from standards bodies and academia.
