Integrated use of management system standards
Organizations may find it to their advantage or required to implement several management system standards. To help them achieve the greatest benefits in doing so, an ISO task force including managers from diverse companies in different countries has been developing an approach presented in a book for publication by ISO in the first quarter of 2008. This article provides a preview of the approach.
International
China pioneered ISO 14001 implementation as a pilot project in 1996, before the actual publication of the international standard. From this head start, the country was ranked 2 nd in the world ISO 14001 league table by end 2006, and has well over 30 000 certified organizations to date.
Standards for Services
With the service sector accounting for approximately 57 % of Korea’s gross domestic product, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) has put a major effort into developing consumer-oriented service standards.

The ISO Standards collection - ISO 9000 Quality management
The 14 ISO International Standards currently comprising the ISO 9000 family of generic quality management standards are now available in new paper and CD editions of The ISO Standards collection. Two standards now at the final draft stage, plus a technical corrigendum, are also included. The ISO 9000 family is best known for ISO 9001:2000, the standard that establishes the requirements for a quality management system and which can be used for certification by organizations that wish to have their conformity to the standard verified by an independent auditor. At the end of 2006, at least 897 866 ISO 9001:2000 certificates had been issued in 170 countries and economies. |
