After the International Standard – now comes the ISO 14001 video clip!

The worldwide première of a video clip on the International Standard ISO 14001 took place on 24 June in Beijing, China, at the opening of the 14th plenary meeting of ISO technical committee ISO/TC 207, which is responsible for the ISO 14000 family of environmental management standards.

ISO Secretary-General Alan Bryden introduced the clip as one of a number of initiatives undertaken by ISO and its national members since last year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of ISO 14001, the first standard in the family.

ISO standards for GHG emissions accounting and verification included in new ISO 14000 CD-ROM collection

ISO has just launched an updated CD-ROM collection of its ISO 14000 family of environmental management standards that includes new or updated standards for use in climate change programmes, environmental labelling, life cycle analysis and environmental communication.

The CD features the three ISO 14064 standards for greenhouse gas accounting and verification, as well as the recently published ISO 14065:2007, which provides the requirements for the accreditation of bodies that carry out these activities. These standards will help organizations address climate change and support emissions trading schemes.

The new CD, ISO 14000, Environmental management, includes the latest editions of all 23 standards (plus a draft standard) constituting the ISO 14000 family developed by ISO technical committee ISO/TC 207, Environmental management. This collection covers:

environmental aspects in product standards; product labelling and declarations; environmental management systems; auditing environmental and/or quality management systems (standard developed in cooperation with ISO/TC 176, Quality management and quality assurance); environmental performance evaluation; life cycle assessment; environmental communication; GHG emissions accounting and verification.

ISO launches self-assessment tool for software asset management

ISO has launched a new self-assessment tool on CD to help organizations ensure an effective and smooth-running IT environment through implementation of the ISO/IEC 19770-1:2006 standard on software asset management.

The CD ISO/IEC 19770-1 Software Asset Management: Are You ready? will help organizations prepare for and maintain certification to ISO/IEC 19770-1:2006. It provides users with:

an interactive version of the standard in a user-friendly, highly usable electronic package; easy documentation for self-assessment against the required outcomes, plus attachment of supporting documentation; faster preparation for certification by making it easier to conduct gap analyses and track progress, and an easier certification process by providing a comprehensive statement by the organization of its status against requirements for certification.
