ISO/TS 22003 aims to build confidence in certification of food safety management systems

A newly published document in the ISO 22000 series gives the requirements for the bodies that carry out auditing and certification of food safety management systems (FSMS).

ISO technical specification ISO/TS 22003:2007 provides information, criteria and guidance for carrying out ISO 22000:2005 auditing and certification. It will therefore be useful for certification bodies, the accreditation bodies that approve them, suppliers wishing to have their FSMS certified, their customers and food sector regulators.

Special Report: Complexity, change and turbulence

This is the seventh and last in a series about the problems of change management in organizations. Previous articles addressed the issue of complexity on several occasions, explaining that it renders change management more difficult. This time, the authors offer some ideas on management practices than are liable to increase complexity artificially along with adverse effects on change management.

The authors advise: "If there is one competency which managers should develop in this context, it is truly that of being able to make choices. It is indeed better to concentrate on a limited number of targets, but the importance of which is critical, and to rely on the spin-off effect of the measures adopted to influence the other dimensions of the organization.

"This appears trivial at first sight; yet in the present turbulent times, managers are so stimulated and so sought-after that quite a number of them are drawn against their will into the whirlwind of turbulence."

Lord Lindsay, Chairman of the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS Ltd.) and a member of the United Kingdom’s Better Regulation Commission (BRC), encourages greater consideration of the role standards and accredited conformity assessment can play in support of lighter touch regulation or even as a self-regulatory alternative to legislation. He cites ISO 14001 as one of the best current examples.
