
This module is concerned with communicating the principles of standards development. To this aim, it makes a basic distinction between the static and dynamic attributes of standards development. Chapter 2 first examines the static elements, particularly different regulatory environments, mechanisms of standardization and the relevant actors. In Chapter 3, these actors are allocated preferences, and certain patterns of behaviour in certain standardization situations are discussed. Finally Chapter 4 deals with a number of basic standardization issues, which at first give the impression of being simple but do in fact prove to be complex and, perhaps because of this, are rarely covered in literature.
