Servicing the services sector

From traditional sales-related services to intangibles such as banking, tourism, and education, services represent the fastest growing sector of the global economy. They are also by far the largest component of GDP.

As the sector develops, so does the demand for standards to ensure quality and good practice in the supply of services. The March 2012 issue of ISO Focus+ looks at the current developments in the international standardization of services and highlights the positive impact they will have, not only for specific services, but for the global market as a whole.

James Brooks

Global Operations Director

This issue of ISO Focus+ features an exclusive interview James Brooks who discusses the added value of ISO 20252 for market, opinion and social research:

At TNS, we have always believed in the basic underlying skills and disciplines of our profession, and it is deeply satisfying to find that in this ISO standard we have support to enable us to demonstrate our commitment to those values in a meaningful and verifiable manner. At the same time, the improvements this brings us in efficiency, employee satisfaction, and not least error and cost reduction provide tangible returns for that faith!

However, for all the market’s dynamism, and individual players’ clamouring for proprietary advantage, there is a need and place for standards. ISO is busy learning from the past and building for the future, determined to develop a successful standard for mobile financial services, ISO 12812.
