The Standards and Quality Assurance Department of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Cooperatives and Marketing is a Government department. The legal framework to provide for establishment of standards, certification and related issues is still in the pipeline. Currently, the department is primarily concerned with training, awareness creation and promotional work. It also provides information on standardization and related activities to stakeholders.

The Department has been the national standards focal point for Lesotho and represents Lesotho in the standardization, quality asuurance, accreditation and metrology (SQAM) Programme of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The Department has been an ISO subscriber member (LSQAS) since 1 January 2000.
