About SA

Standards Australia Limited (SA) is an independent non-profit company recognized through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Commonwealth of Australia Government as the peak non-government standards development body and the national member of ISO and IEC. It is a company limited by guarantee, with 69 members representing groups interested in the development and application of standards and related products and services.

Since the devolution of its certification, publication and other business activities in 2003, Standards Australia has been primarily focused on standards development and the promotion and support of Australian design and innovation through the Australian Design Awards (ADA).

While the bulk of standardization activities are undertaken within Standards Australia, there is the ability for other Australian organizations to be accredited as Standards Development Organizations (SDOs) through an autonomous Standards Accreditation Board (SAB), and a small number of organizations have availed themselves of this opportunity.
